Who we are
The Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) works to ensure that students with disabilities have an equal opportunity in all aspects of the educational environment. OAR serves roughly 1,000 students a year, and is a completely free service. Students who use OAR are matched with an advisor, who will work one-on-one with them to map out an accommodation plan each semester. The plan takes into account the student's academic goals here at OCC, along with their plans after graduation. Participation in OAR is confidential and does not appear on students' transcripts. Also, current OCC students who suspect that they may have a disability are welcome to be screened at the OAR office before being referred for outside evaluation.
Who qualifies for OAR?
OAR serves students with a wide range of disabilities, including but not limited to vision or hearing impairment, acquired brain injuries (ABI,) and autism. Students who had a documented disability in high school should submit their 504 plan, IEP, and a copy of psychological testing to OAR upon admission to OCC. Other forms of appropriate documentation include reports from a student’s physician, ACCESS/VR, Department of Veterans Affairs, or Workers' Compensation. All reports must detail the exact nature of the disability.
