College for Living

Because everyone deserves an education

We're proud to host College for Living courses, which are geared toward students and Central New York community members with intellectual disabilities. College for Living courses are generally offered on evenings and weekends, and cover topics like life skills, money and finances, and inter-personal communication. The Foundations Transition Program prepares students for employment and independence through training in communication, decision-making/problem-solving, independent living, and interpersonal relations. The program blends real-life experience with classroom learning and teaches students how to develop an understanding of expectations, and identify their role in accomplishing what is expected, whether in the community or on the job.

Student participation spans three to four years and is then followed by a referral to other agencies for vocational placement.

New Visions is a week-long college experience for students with developmental disabilities. Students reside in on-campus residence halls, integrate with other summer school students, and participate in classes. New Visions provides a safe, but stimulating learning environment, packed with choices and opportunities to allow each student to learn and apply independent living and social skills. Fun activities, including yearbooks, a prom, and a graduation ceremony, accompany the week of on-site learning.
