Onondaga Community College's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society welcomed 116 new members during an induction ceremony October 25 in Storer Auditorium. PTK is the official international honor society of two-year colleges. New members must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at OCC, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5. Speakers at the event included Chapter President Joseph Mevec, PTK Advisor and Assistant Dean of Civic Engagement Dr. Annie Tuttle, OCC President Dr. Warren Hilton, and Chapter Vice President for Service Mohammad Afsar.
The OCC Vocal Ensemble, under the leadership of Dr. David Rudari, performed the National Anthem and the Phi Theta Kappa Song.
During the event, PTK Advisor Jackie Barstow was recognized by the international organization for 10 years of outstanding service to honor society students.
The chapter's theme for academic research this year is "The Art of Science and Play." A two-day event titled "Find Your Play" will be held in the lobby of Coulter Hall November 1 from 12:15 to 1:15, and November 2 from 10am to 2pm. The student's college project for this year focused on student retention and engagement.
