Onondaga Community College Lazers Student-Athletes excelled on national stages on Mother's Day weekend. The Women's Lacrosse team dominated their opponent in the National Championship game and sophomore Bryn Whitman won her second consecutive National Championship in the Women's Discus event.
Women's Lacrosse
- The Lazers defeated Monroe Community College 19-4 to cap off a perfect 12-0 season, and the third NJCAA National Championship in program history. Olivia Lockwood (West Genesee HS) was named Offensive MVP after recording 12 goals and 1 assist on championship weekend. Goalie Madison Manno (Easton, PA) was named Defensive MVP with 13 saves and 9 goals allowed in 2 games. Head Coach Erik Mattox was named Coach of the Tournament. "This year we knew what the goal was. We went in with full confidence. Having these great kids come in to our program and believe in their roles and goals we put in front of them means a ton," said Coach Mattox.
Bryn Whitman
- Whitman won her second consecutive National Championship in the Women's Discus event. Her best throw was 40.21 meters, nearly 6 meters further than the second place finisher. "This means a lot! I really hope it inspires other track athletes to realize they can push themselves and achieve greatness. It's totally possible," said Whitman. She is a 2022 graduate of Auburn High School and a Graphic Design major at OCC. She's graduating this weekend Summa Cum Laude (grade point average between 3.8 and 4.0), and plans to continue her education at SUNY Cortland.
