Shane Patterson works with students in OCC's Sound Recording degree program. His work on a new album as a sound engineer is part of a 2022 Grammy Award nomination.

Early next month Onondaga Community College Sound Recording Professor Shane Patterson will find out if he can say he worked on an album that won a Grammy Award. "It's a pleasant surprise to be part of this. It doesn't feel all that real. I won't be torn up if the project doesn't win but I'll be a little excited if it does. That would be pretty cool!"

The 2022 Grammy Award winners will be announced on the night of Sunday April 3rd. One of the albums nominated is for a musical titled "Some Lovers." Patterson was the audio engineer for the vocals on one of the album's songs. He oversaw the recording of vocals by actress and singer Auli’i Cravalho at Subcat Studios in Syracuse. If you are a fan of Disney movies, Cravalho's name may sound familiar to you. She played "Moana" in the animated film titled "Moana" in 2016.

Patterson graduated from Baldwinsville High School just five years ago. How has he done so well in the recording industry in such a short period of time? And what does he love about teaching students in the Sound Recording degree program at OCC? He's our guest on this edition of our podcast, "Chatting About College." You can find "Chatting About College" at places like iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you download fine podcasts from.
