Responsibility for Maintenance: Student Engagement; Information Technology Services
I. Policy Statement
The public showing or display of Pornographic Materials on the Onondaga Community College (OCC) campus, or in a manner that a third party would reasonably tend to associate with the College, is prohibited. Without limiting the generality of this policy, (a) such activities may not be part of the Student Activities Program and student activity fees may not be used to support such activities; and (b) organizations and groups which maintain an affiliation with the College, such as recognized student organizations and alumni clubs, may not conduct such activities as part of their official activities programs. Public display prohibited by this policy includes, but is not limited to, display on billboards, residence hall doors or computer screens likely to be viewed by parties other than the user of the computer.
II. Reason for Policy
Due to the manner in which such activities reflect upon the College, the College’s Board of Trustees does not support or condone the public showing or display of Pornographic Materials on the College campus or in a manner that a third party would reasonably tend to associate with the College. This policy implements this prohibition.
III. Applicability of the Policy
This policy applies to all members of the College community, including without limitation organizations and groups which maintain an affiliation with the College and their members.

V. Definitions

Pornographic Materials | Any media, regardless of form and including without limitation visual, audio or audiovisual recording, still photograph or drawn depiction, that is (a) accorded an “NC-17 Rating” pursuant to the Motion Picture Association of America movie rating system for reasons of explicit sexual content; or (b) is marketed by its producer using “X-Rated” or similar terminology, or (c) is otherwise determined by the College to be pornographic in nature. “Pornographic Materials” shall not include materials used for in-class instruction as part of an approved course curriculum. |
