Onondaga Community College and La Liga welcomed more than 50 8th grade girls from the Syracuse City School District to campus October 18 for Girls Going Tech Espanol. Students participated in hands-on STEM-related activities, and engaged in "Women in STEM" group mentoring conversations, all entirely in Spanish. "This inspired me a lot because I have options for high school, and one of them might be engineering" said Lillian Estrada.

This was the third Micron-related event of 2023 which brought younger students to the OCC campus. In May the college hosted "Girls Going Tech" which included 8th grade girls from the LaFayette, Onondaga, and Syracuse City School Districts. And in July, Chip Camp brought more than 100 rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders to campus. They were from the Syracuse, Lafayette, East Syracuse Minoa, and several Oswego County school districts through CiTi BOCES.

Micron is investing $100 billion in the region, building a massive chipmaking plant in the Onondaga County Town of Clay. OCC is in its first semester of new, Micron-related Electromechanical Technology degree and certificate programs.
