Lauren Myers has loved to draw for as long as she or anyone in her family can remember. "My dad likes to say he doesn't know where I got it from. One day I just started drawing and never stopped. In high school I realized art was something I really wanted to do."
Myers was inspired to pursue a career in Art by her teachers at Marcellus High School. When she graduated in 2021, she decided to bring her artistic passion to Onondaga Community College. "I knew it was a better value than starting at a four-year school and my parents supported me. I knew I wanted to come here."
From the moment she arrived on campus, her passion for her coursework showed. She excelled in the Art degree program, achieved outstanding grades, and earned membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Outside class she was in the Animal Conservation Club, a member of the Diversity Equity Inclusion Belonging Council, and Co-Chair of the Unity Day Committee. "I really enjoyed planning what was going to happen. Our goal was to bring everyone together and I think Unity Day does a great job of doing that."
Myers is in her final week as a student at OCC. She'll complete her degree this month, then transfer to SUNY Oswego where she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Her career goal is to be part of a team that does concept designs and illustrations for video games. "There's a lot of architectural design in games. A level might have a castle, and some of it can be very very pretty. Working for a big video company would be my dream job."
