You've been checking out those dorm essentials lists, but they always seem huge and you end up missing something. Here's what OCC recommends for our suites.

What to bring 

Bedroom

  • Totes to store personal items like snacks, cleaning supplies
  • Clothes hangers
  • Laundry basket/hamper

Common Area

  • TV, boardgames, or communal entertainment items
  • Throw blanket
  • Throw pillow
  • Coffeemaker

Bathroom

  • Shower curtain
  • Hand soap
  • Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant, etc.)
  • Shower caddy
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Towels
  • Toilet paper

Other things

  • Snacks
  • Plates and a few utensils
  • Laundry supplies
  • Wall art

We offer computers, printers, and more on campus, but if you want an expanded recommendation list on what to bring, we think College Board has a good one.

A microfridge is an all in one unit specially designed for residence hall rooms that includes a refrigerator, freezer, and microwave.

Size

  • Refrigerator is 2.13 cubic ft.
  • Freezer is .74 cubic ft.

Room Rules

There are a few rules we have to obey as a community to keep everyone safe and healthy. Please review the following guidelines when moving in or decorating.

  • Do not store items within 18 inches from a sprinkler head or within 2 feet from the ceiling
  • Do not move heavy furniture – submit a work order and facilities will assist with moving furniture
  • Do not hang anything on the ceiling or sprinklers
  • Do not have strings of lights on your walls or ceiling
  • You may not cover more than 50% of your door or walls as it is a fire hazard
  • Do not put any stickers or decorations that leave a residue on your walls (including washable paint)
  • Animals of any kind (unless an APPROVED Emotional Support Animal or Service Animal through the Office of Accessibility Resources)
  • Alcohol or other drugs and any AOD paraphernalia (including hookas)
  • Hoverboards
  • Dartboards with metal tips
  • Drums or DJ equipment
  • Extension cords or multi-plug outlets
  • Neon signs and any kind of string lights
  • Personal modems
  • Federal, state, college, local or other signs
  • Halogen lamps, lava lamps, torchiere lamps, octopus lamps, or other high intensity lamps
  • Firearms, weapons or other dangerous instruments (paintball guns, BB guns, paintball guns, airsoft guns, knives, archery equipment, etc.)
  • Curtains, drapes, or tapestries (unless flame resistant with proof on tag)
  • Appliances with exposed heating elements (George Foreman Grills, Panini Grills, hotplates, etc.)
  • Candles, fireworks, explosives, charcoal/gas grills, oil lamps, incense, any combustible device, electric blankets, etc.
  • Indoor use of any athletic equipment (pull up bars, workout bench, etc.)
  • Air Conditioners and Space Heaters
  • Live-cut Christmas trees and any flammable decorations
